The International Volunteer Experience (V.I.E.) is a professional contract that allows young people to work abroad for a French company. This full-time contract typically lasts between 6 to 24 months, offering an immersive experience similar to a part-time contract in terms of flexibility.

What type of profile is required for a V.I.E.?

To be eligible for a V.I.E. contract with a French company abroad, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Be a citizen of the European Union Be between 18 and 28 years old Have completed your initial school graduation or training Not have previously worked in the country where you are applying

Once you find an interesting offer, submit your application, which should include your CV, a motivational letter tailored to the company, and the application should be in the language specified in the offer. If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited for an interview. If selected, you will undergo administrative procedures such as contract management and, if necessary, visa processing.

All V.I.E. applications are monitored and validated by Business France, the agency responsible for supporting the development of French companies internationally.

Financial benefits: First and foremost, individuals with a V.I.E. contract receive an allowance rather than a salary, which is not subject to French taxes. The amount varies depending on the country and cost of living, with housing allowances provided to cover accommodation. Additionally, starting from the first month, the volunteer can receive a doubled income to help offset transportation costs. This extra income is then deducted from the next five monthly payments.

Travel and relocation support: The company covers 100% of travel expenses to the destination country (second-class travel). The volunteer is also entitled to 150kg of luggage to assist with relocation. In some cases, certain companies may even cover home charges.

Health and retirement benefits: V.I.E. participants can benefit from health insurance and retirement plans that may exceed the coverage available in France.

Paid time off: From day one, V.I.E. participants are entitled to 30 days of paid vacation each year.
